Kursk Oblast governor sees window of opportunity to expand cooperation with Belarus

09.06.2022

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – There is a window of opportunity to expand cooperation with Belarus, Kursk Oblast Governor Roman Starovoyt said as he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“Our cooperation seems to have great prospects. Although the trade is small, the growth is significant. In January-March 2022, the trade rose 1.8 times. That was largely due to the restrictions imposed by unfriendly countries, but we see this as a window of opportunity. We perceive it as an additional impetus to intensify bilateral cooperation,” the Russian governor said.

Roman Starovoyt noted that he brought a big delegation of more than 40 people to Belarus. Among them are rectors of universities, company owners, and entrepreneurs.

The governor said that the day before, the delegation visited the Belagro 2022 international exhibition; there is also great interest in the IT sector.

Roman Starovoyt thanked Belarusian construction workers who work in Kursk Oblast, including at the nuclear power plant. A Belarusian construction company is building a residential neighborhood in the city of Kursk. “About 80,000 m2. have already been built. In the next few years, this figure will reach 150,000 m2. We earmark land plots, help with engineering infrastructure. In general, housing construction is one of our main areas of cooperation. We have already discussed today a possibility to involve the state design institute in Minsk in the design of infrastructure facilities in the region. You already use BIM technologies [building information modeling], these are promising technologies. The construction industry in the Russian Federation has already switched to BIM. It is gratifying that your designers also use it,” the Russian governor said.

In addition, the Kursk Oblast delegation discussed joint work on import substitution and visited a number of industrial enterprises in Minsk.
